Internet shopping has slowly gained popularity with majority of online users today. Whereas in the past, security issues were a major concern to online buyers, they have not become more confident in purchasing from online shopping sites given modern advances in fraud protection. However, as the evolution of internet shopping progressed, users are also more aware of what they want to see in shopping websites before they commit to making a purchase.

There are several things that are now a must-have for shopping websites before they are deemed worth of a potential buyer's attention. First and foremost are prices. No matter how close they are on the conversion funnel - from those that are still shopping around for products to those that are ready to buy - competitive prices matter. Comparative shopping has become much easier with shopping websites like Amazon and NextTag and consumers are more aware of the subtle changes in prices from one merchant to another. If you want to continue to be competitive in this arena, it would be best to offer prices at par or relatively lower to your competition.

Information is also a key decision factor for internet shopping. Today's consumers look for shopping websites that can offer comprehensive information on the product and the category itself. Most online shopping sites today get the product descriptions from the manufacturer and often have duplicate content that can be seen with other online shopping sites that use the same piece of content. To give your shopping websites an edge, use the manufacturer-provided description as a benchmark, but customize it for your site.

As important as the text are images. They still influence buying behavior. So, if you're running some online shopping sites, it would be good to provide not just comprehensive information but also high-quality images for your products. If you can have more the one image, better.

Reviews also play a major role in how consumers decide when internet shopping. If you are unable to provide custom reviews for your customer, then it would be best to search what others are saying online about that particular product before displaying it in your shopping websites. Remember, your customers are most likely doing a search for reviews of the product. So should you.

Last but not the least, before consumers decide to buy from any one online shopping website, they look for assurance of security. We've come full circle with this requirement. Today's consumers still need that feeling of security that they are dealing with a reputable shopping website and that they will not be scammed out of their hard-earned money. AS such, security seals matter. Try to get subscribe to Truste or Verisign or some other providers that have recognizable seals. It would also help if you have certifications from the likes of Better Business Bureau Online. Do not forget your SSL certificates for any pages that handle credit card details. That little padlock icon still matter to consumers who are concerned about safe internet shopping.
